Stella Bella

Hi and thanks so much for inviting me to part of something so spectacular. My name is Stella M. Perkins and I am from the St. Louis Metropolitan area.

Making art is a way for me to accept what I look like and to remember the power I hold within me. By working with my hands, i.e. carving wood blocks, making collages, or painting, I can physically express tension, aggravation and complacency that I experience every day. My paintings and prints involve the nude figure, most often the female as the subject. My paintings are realistic, detailed, and explorative of color. With color I can reveal emotions such as disgust, contempt, love, and creativity.

Many of my influences include Gustav Klimt, Alphonse Mucha, Beardsley, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Marcel Duchamp, Picasso, Henri Matisse, Judy Chicago, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Mary Cassatt, Käthe Kollwitz, Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, and many others.

My favorite movements in no particular order are: Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Surrealist, Bauhaus, Cubism, Dada (of course!), Fauvism, Figurative, Feminism, mad love for Graffitti!, Pop Art, Romanticism, Samikshavad, Symbolism, Underground Comix, as well as African, Asian, Native American, and Primitive Art.

Once again, thanks so much for the invite. I have so much more to share!
